What's Inspiring Sofie This Month...
Chains might just be my favorite part of jewelry.
The way a well-proportioned chain feels on you neck or wrist: so wearable. Heavy & chunky or light & delicate, they all have a perfect purpose and weight for a special spot on our wrist, neck, or elsewhere.
I've been finding inspiration in everything from solid, beautifully patinaed old ship chain, to industrial woven copper tubing from Ace Hardware.
Then there's handmade chain: increasingly uncommon to find.
I love making chain for where it takes me as I make it. It's a heavy and time-consuming process, demands multiple skills, and is so old fashioned, making it practically forgotten as a craft.
I sometimes start with unwanted and broken jewelry, and melt the gold. Next is the drawing/pulling of the wire (that part is a full workout that will leave you sore for days...); annealing and forming the different shape into links; and soldering (knowing the chain is only as strong as the weakest link, but also sometimes leaving a weak link for protection, in case you should get caught on something).
After this lengthy but lovely process, you are left with a unique custom heirloom. Here are a few chain pieces I've been working on that I'm excited to share with you for the first time.

We are thrilled to introduce a new, super delicious candle from LA CURIE into our stock . These candles smell and look so freaking fantastic! They are limited edition, so snap one, two (or six) up while you have the chance, because once they are gone...they are, well...gone.
“Set the controls for the heart of the Sun”
An aromatic blend of Amber, Elemi Resin, Turkish Tea, Orange Blossom & Bergamot, this candle is designed to carry you back to a time when precious oils and resins were as highly valued as gold and gems.
Elemi Resin was named from an Arabic phrase meaning ‘above and below’, signifying actions in both the emotional and spiritual planes.

We could not be more thrilled to have some dangerously delicious neighbors back in our lil' corner of the MSA. Look forward to grab and go sandwiches, salads, wine and baked goods, including Barrio Bread. It's going to be top notch, we are certain, and we are hungry...we mean happy...to welcome our new neighbors!
Stella Java and all of their bad-ass baristas will be expanding into a larger, more permanent space in the market hall and will be adding some local beer taps to their fine beverage repertoire. Along with these great changes, a little ol' name change is happening. Stella is now Presta, officially! Look for the expanded space featuring six local beer taps mid to late November.
Hey! Guess who's turning seven...yep, MAST. Please mark your calendar for December 10th!
More details to come, but rest assured, you won't want to miss this anniversary celebration!
