October Newsletter

rings of power right.jpg

A ring  can carry a lot of meaning.  A ring can evoke  memories, make us feel close to a loved one, help us to feel more  beautiful,  strong , accomplished , can make us feel ready for a new beginning or offer a sense of belonging.

This season, and most always, I am  finding  inspiration  in  mourning jewelry ,old etchings, paintings , sea life , and tattoos.

My new Signet Log Ring is so much fun to make, it is a three dimensional piece that came to me in a dream. I then spent a few days constructing it in my mind  and once I sat down to work on it, it pretty most just made itself.

I love building rings, and sometimes, it is obviously a power ring

Y Studio is a Taiwanese design house that makes fine stationery artifacts (think pens, pencils, etc.) designed to last a lifetime. The hardware in their latest collection, Brassing, includes a ballpoint pen, sketching pencil and ruler all made out of brass, some of which that have been painted black. Over time, the paint will wear away to reveal the brass beneath in a completely unique way based on each user. If you’re not one for waiting, Y Studio also attaches a piece of sand paper to the product’s package that you can use to speed up the entire process. MAST also carries the Classic Brass line.

Y Studio Brassing Pens and Pencils currently available in store only.

Tucson Modernism Week 2017, presented by the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation will take place Saturday October 7th through Sunday October 15th. The celebration will feature a series of programs, film, lectures and events highlighting Tucson’s Mid-century Modern design and architecture throughout the city, along with the very popular vintage trailer show. Tucson’s Modernism captured the exuberance of the post WWII era, and is defined by clean, simple lines and a casual informality. In the Southern Arizona desert the movement has come to be defined as Sonoran Modern with the use of regional materials, adaptation to the desert climate and an emphasis on indoor/outdoor living.  2017 will feature work by legendary designers and modernists including Judith Chafee, Barbara Mettler and Cele Peterson.

Just a reminder to help victims of any of the many recent natural  and not so natural disasters and tragedies around the world. Its overwhelming, to say the least, how many people have been affected and knowing how to and where to help can be challenging.
